Generating Your Own Power

Lewis County PUD participates in the following two alternative energy programs.

Net Metering of Electricity

A customer with a wind or solar system will at times generate more power than they need. The net metering program allows a customer to feed this excess energy back into the PUD’s electric system. A bi-directional meter, also called a net meter, is installed to measure flow of power in two directions. This meter will measure the energy that is delivered from the utility to the customer and from the customer to the utility. Then the customer is billed on the “net” difference. In the instance a customer generates more than they use over an entire billing cycle, then the customer is given an energy credit to be used on future bills.

Washington State Incentive Payment Program

The Washington State Renewable Energy Cost Recovery Program pays eligible applicants for power produced by their on-site renewable energy system that is designed to supplement some of their energy consumption. The program is currently fully subscribed, so no new applications are being accepted at this time. Funding for future participants is dependent on the state legislature.
