(Chehalis, WA) - October 6-12 is Public Power Week and Lewis County PUD (PUD) turns the attention to the value of professional workers for the safe and reliable delivery of power to our community. As the demand for electricity increases, the need for qualified personnel trained in the myriad of new technologies, safety procedures, and evolving dangers associated with power generation, transmission, and distribution has never been more important.

PUD workers regularly face hazardous conditions including extreme weather, high-voltage equipment, often during emergency situations. Our employees keep the electrical system operating and work to minimize risks.

Electricity is fundamental to our everyday lives. The PUD workforce and their expertise ensures not only the reliability of the electrical system but also the safety of PUD employees and our community.

Our craft employees master their skills through apprenticeship programs accumulating up to 3,000 hours of hands-on training over a span of over two years covering positions such as Operator-Maintainers, Metermen, Tree Trimmers, and Linemen. After the apprenticeships are completed, our team continues to get on the job training throughout their careers.

With strict adherence to industry standards and continuous safety education, the PUD invests in every worker to ensure they are equipped to handle the potential dangers of the job.

Whether it's repairing downed power lines during a storm, performing maintenance on live electrical equipment, or conducting a pole-top rescue, their expertise ensures that everyone involved remains safe—the cornerstone of the PUD's operational philosophy.

Without these men and women dedicated to their craft and community, the PUD would not be able to ensure that homes, schools, hospitals, and businesses receive the power they need.
