    NEWS RELEASE SEPTEMBER 12, 2006
    LEWIS PUD REDUCES RATES 4%

Lewis County PUD Manager, Dave Muller, announced today that the Utility Commissioners have approved a retail customer rate reduction of approximately 4% effective October 1, 2006.  As a result of the rate reductions, Lewis County PUD will have the lowest retail residential rates of any non-generating Public Utility District in the State of Washington.

The rate reduction approved by the Commissioners is the first since the western energy crisis and the rate increases of 2001.  At that time, the Bonneville Power Administration (BPA) raised the rates it charged the District by 46%.  The October rate reduction includes a pass-through of an approximately 2% reduction in the wholesale power rates charged by BPA to the District, as well as a further reduction based on the District’s anticipated revenues and expenses for the coming year.

Muller cautioned that continued high spending by BPA for fisheries litigation and other government mandates may result in increased rates in the future.
